aalayam (2008)

The regular family story, the film begins with Rangaiah (K B Thilak) who is a big landlord in the village Nemmallapalem and as big as his richness is his heart. He treats the entire village as his home and the villagers as his own people. With a kind intention, he transforms the whole village and gives it a new name Raj Nagaram. The place gets busy with orphanages, schools, hospitals and many other public utility things which give Rangaiah a good name. On the personal side, Rangaiah has an army of a family and he lives in a joint family with his sons (Chalapathi Rao, Ranganath, Naresh, Babu Mohan and Sivaji) and their wives (Seetha, Kovai Sarala, Gitanjali). The home of Rangaiah is always hunky dory with children, noise, hustle bustle and the happiness of a joint family. Things change when a factory worker (Rehman) falls in love with Rangaiah's daughter and once her brothers get whiff of this, they beat him to pulp and throw him away. However, love is strong and she runs away with him only to get married. Time passes and the occasion of celebrating Rangaiah's 100th birthday arrives, he reveals that he wants to see his granddaughter during the event. Sivaji takes it upon himself to get them back into the family, he finally finds Rehman, persuades him to come back. He comes back but then with a motive to destroy the peace of the joint family and divide everyone. He is well supported by the other village elder (Jayaprakash Reddy) in this heinous plot and what happens after that? Is he successful in his attempts? All this forms the rest of the story.
