This is a story of two young friends - a boy and a girl - emotionally bound to each other and call it `friendship' but soon realise it is `love'.

The film opens in a college campus with the usual pranks punctuating the development of story into perfect friendship between Karthik (Sriram) and Swetha (Sneha), who are divided by a huge economic gap. Sweta's father (Devan) is a millionaire, while Karthik is an orphan and has to seek donations to continue his studies, with the help of another girl Mini (Gayatri), who too loves him. But Karthik and Swetha get closer but do not express themselves to each other openly. A thin wall is built between them because of the relationship Mini claims to have developed with Karthik. Karthik is already concerned about the girl's status and starts feeling he is unfit to marry her.

Now the story moves into Swetha's house, where her father is shown making preparations to get her married to a boy of his choice. He requests Karthik to convince the girl to marry him. Every thing boils down to the climax where the two still pretend to be just friends. On the farewell day of the college, they meet and agree to separate but continue to meet every year on a particular day. They then they carve their names on a tree trunk. As his bus starts moving, Karthik notices that the huge tree being felled by woodcutters. Karthik jumps down and runs there and begins crying . Swetha too comes there and does the same. Only then Swetha's father arrives on the scene and understands the intensity of their love and ends the film on a happy note.
