Veeraiah (Mikkilineni) is hardworking, honest and a sincere laborer when his wife collapses during delivery perturbed Veeriah runs for a doctor. At the same time, police chase a thief in another street. The thief hits Veeriah keeps the stolen ornament in his pocket and runs away. Police arrest Veeriah and present him in the Court. Public prosecutor Ranganatham (Gummadi) argues that he is the culprit because he was son and grandson of thieves, so he is also a thief and Veeriah is jailed. Desperate Veeriah escapes from jail to see his wife. By the time he reaches hospital his wife dies giving birth to a male child. At the same time, Ranganatham’s wife Shantamma (Hemalatha) also delivers a male child. When Veeraiah knows this makes a plan in his mind and he exchanges the children by threatening the nurse Rathamma. After that Veeriah is again caught by police and sent to jail. He gives the child to his neighbor Suramma (P.Lakshmikantamma) to the rear. Due to hunger and no parental care, the boy becomes a thief.

Years roll by, Judge Ranganatham’s son Venu (N.T.Rama Rao) becomes a notorious criminal and laborer Veeriah’s son Vasu (Jaggayya) becomes a reputed lawyer. Venu joins with deadly gangsters and he has extraordinary talent of opening lockers with empty hands. Ranganadham sister’s daughter Susheela (Jamuna) grows along with Vasu. Vasu loves Susheela from childhood and their elders also decide to make their marriage but Susheela does not have any such ideas. Meanwhile, Veeraiah released from jail and he feels happy to know that his dream has come true. Once Venu gets acquaintance with Susheela and both of them fall in love. Knowing that Vasu decides to sacrifice his love but he comes to know that Venu is a burglar and he reveals it to Susheela but she does not believe it. To keep up the trust Susheela kept on him, Venu decides to stop robberies and completely changes.

On the occasion of Susheela’s birthday, Venu is also invited, when a baby gets stuck up in a locker, to save her Venu uses his talent and opens the locker by which he is caught and he himself surrenders to the police. Vasu takes up the case as defense counsel and argues that thief’s son may not be a thief which Veeraiah appreciates Vasu, and Venu is sentenced to 3 months. Susheela feels goes to jail, understands that he is completely changed and promises him that she will wait for him. Time passes as Venu is released from jail. Susheela takes him to their house to talk with Ranganadham regarding their marriage. Ranganadham tries to give money to Venu and asks to get out of her life. Venu throws it on his face and leaves that place. Ranganadham warns Susheela to never meet him again. When Venu reaches home Veeriah is in death bed, Venu protects him by keeping his life at risk in a competition. Seeing the virtue of Venu, Veeriah breaks out the sin he has committed but Venu does not want to reveal it out because he wants to keep his father’s honor.

Meanwhile, Ranganadham makes marriage arrangements of Vasu & Susheela by threatening them. Parallelly, Vasu also comes to know the truth. During the time of marriage Vasu leaves the venue and goes to Venu and asks him to come back to his place but he rejects. At the same time, Venu comes to know that his previous gangsters are planning to make a huge robbery in Ranganadham’s house. Vasu & Venu reach there and see their end. One of the gangsters throws the knife on Venu, Veeriah saves him and reveals entire truth. Ranganadham also feels sorry for his actions and accepts Venu as his son. When Vasu is about to leave the house Ranganadham stops him and says that from that day onwards he is having two sons. Finally, the movie ends with a happy note with the marriage of Venu and Susheela
