Penguin (2020) Set in a hill station in Kodaikanal, the film revolves around a mother and her missing child. Ritu aka Rhythm’s (Keerthy Suresh) toddler son was kidnapped by a psycho who wears a mask of Charlie Chaplin. Ritu and her husband Raghu separate, and five years later she gets married again and is expecting her first child with her second husband. Even after six years, she continues to search for her son and heads to the lake regularly where he had been missing. One day, Ajay (Master Advaith) dramatically runs away from the kidnapper and finds his mom. Traumatized by the kidnap, the child doesn’t speak to anyone and the doctor David (Mathi) tells her to give him time to open up. But Keerthy finds that the kidnapper is coming to her house. Who is the kidnapper and how does she nab him?.

All in all, Penguin is a poorly made film with overextended screenplay. Keerthy Suresh’s performance, best work from all the technicians and few thrilling elements are the only saving grace of the film..

Penguin’ begins interestingly, sets up the mood well, and creates an eerie mood to the most but all that slides away the moment twists begin to unravel. Keerthy once again a fine performance but the movie ends up as a clumsy thrille.

Keerthy’s performance, the setting and technical excellence is what makes Penguin an okay watch on OTT. A better second half would have made it a captivating thriller. Verdict: Misses The Mark!.

On the whole, Penguin is a mystery thriller that has a good performance by Keerthy Suresh. The first forty minutes, production values, and the premise are very good. But the film falls flat in the last half an hour where the thrills, emotions, and climax .
