Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari (2020) Call it pigeon-holed approach, but Madhu Mangal Rane (Manoj Bajpayee) has vowed to get lafangaas out of all the future brides’ ways in Mumbai (then Bombay) and his count is soaring; 48 grooms exposed so far. But the 49th one turns out to be a bouncer in his life. ‘Duduwala’ (the writers' words, not ours) Suraj Singh Dhillon (Diljit Dosanjh) is 28 and that one time he tries to model his life on the bad boys of Bollywood, Rane catches him off-guard and desperate Dhillon is now without a bride… yet again! ‘Suraj Pe Mangal Bhaari’ chronicles the clash of these two men-children, and it is mad fun!.

In one scene, a pandit says his part-time job of match-making pays his bills, as opposed to his full-time job of a journalist. Just a scene that stuck with us..

Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari is too focused on the clash of cultures and temperaments - Suraj is happy that he can read a comic book in two hours while the ambitious Tulsi Rane is an avid lover of Marathi theatre - to notice that it isn't really saying anything .

Somewhere in there is an attempt to stand up for women who want to do their own thing. Shaikh wants to be a DJ, but has to hide the fact. Why? Because DJs work in night spots where there is drink and dancing? Who writes this stuff? And why are we watching.

All said and done, ‘Suraj Pe Mangal Bhaari’ is a witty satire – on the gori-kaali hangover, what qualifies as good or bad behaviour in today’s world and how little soothsayers know about marriages. Hop on and join in in the tug of war!.
