Coolie No.1 (2020) Jeffery Rozario (Paresh Rawal), a Goan hotelier wants his daughter Sarah (Sara Ali Khan ) to get hitched to a 'stinking' rich man. When Pandit Jai Kishen (Javed Jafferi), a matchmaker brings a marriage proposal for Sarah, Rozario humiliates him and the boy's family because "inn logon ka rishta pehle se gareebi ke saath judda hua hai." An enraged Kishen who considers his self-respect to be his pride, decides to teach him a lesson and finds a perfect opportunity when he comes across Raju Coolie (Varun Dhawan), a railway porter. The performances are all so rudimentary and by the numbers that it would be futile to rate them. There is something seriously wrong with a film that wants to be a laugh riot but does not have the wherewithal to cash in on Javed Jaffery's presence in the c.

Varun Dhawan’s Coolie No 1 frankly doesn’t match up to what Govinda gave us in the 1995 version because it is almost impossible to fill into the latter’s shoes when it comes to his comic timing. If you loved Govinda’s Coolie No 1, this one will de.

The film’s music is catchy and the songs are well-shot with all the shenanigans of a grand Bollywood potboiler in place. It makes for a good watch, but the ‘Mirchi lagi’ song deserved a much better remake. Oh, and that’s true for the film as well..
