Koi Jaane Na (2021) An author struggling with his failed marriage and a writer’s block lands himself in major trouble, after a blackmailer threatens to reveal his true identity. At the same time, he meets a beautiful young girl with a dark past. Together, can they overcome their demons and live happily ever after? Kabir Kapoor (Kunaal Kapoor) is a famous author and a YouTuber by the day and the savior of the world by the night. He disguises himself to help those in trouble and stop the crimes. But his own life is in a mess. His ex-wife (Vidya Malvade), who was cheating on him, is now out to sue him. This after, squeezing him dry with a huge alimony. She now wants his ‘khatara’ jeep and the sprawling bungalow in Panchgini, which is also the labyrinth of Kabir’s deep dark secrets. She even hires a cunning detective cum reporter Ricky Rosario (Karim Hajee) to blackmail Kabir. Amidst all of this, a beautiful young backpacker Suhana (Amyra Dastur), literally drops into Kabir’s life when he is on his way to Panchgini. As expected, this chance meeting promptly develops into love and live-in, but suddenly, a spate of murders rock the sleepy hill station and their lives, as Kabir becomes the main suspect..

Kunaal Kapoor and Amyra Dastur are well-cast in their roles and they have some scope to perform, despite the obvious lacunas in the writing. Ashwini Kalsekar is quite impactful as the tough cop and Atul Kulkarni is grossly wasted. In the end, the most convincing part about this one is its title ‘Koi Jaane Na’ that perfectly sums up the feeling after watching it..

Amin Hajee clearly loves the movies; of that there’s no doubt. The opening credits include an animated sequence that announces the name of his production house. It features Bagha the mute drummer, the character Hajee played in Lagaan, his best-known role till date. It’s a joyous little animated jig. And fellow Lagaan cast members Aamir Khan and Apoorva Lakhia do their bits in Koi Jaane Na, but salvaging this film is, sadly, beyond their combined powers..

Were there writers on the job? Is this really a film? Who knows? The only thing I can tell you with any conviction is that Aamir Khan is still as sexy a dancer as he has always been, and his item number with Elli AvRam is the only thing worth watching in the movie. That, and the lab..
