Critic Review
Sahasra (2013) In the Chintapalli asthanam, Rudra Narasimha Raju (Rajiv Kanakala) is more than just one who shows off that he is a zamindar. He’s got a kind heart and even gives away his land to the poor. The good gesture is a result of his wife Mayuka Devi (Reva) urging that the people should be gifted the land on their wedding anniversary. No one ever gets to see Mayuka Devi because she does not stir out of the huge bungalow. People wonder how she looks like and they are envious of one dumb worker in the bungalow – Chinnappa (Shafi). Chinnappa is not as innocent as he looks. He casts his evil eyes on Mayuka Devi. The dumb character does not give up on what becomes hisobsession. If he has to kill the zamindar to achieve his purpose, the dumb man does it.Where does Sahasra fit into all this? Director Sri Vishal Kandukoori stitches all pieces to make it look like a colourful garment for us. While Rajiv Kanakala is comfortable in his role as the zamindar, it is Shafi who steals the show with his histrionics. In so far as the movie is concerned, it is a drag. You’ve seen such movies before and better ones at that..

Sahasra is a movie whose enjoyment depends on your sense of humour and tolerance for the ridiculous in more or less equal parts. It works best as a gag gift to a frenemy, or as a way to ride out a bad trip in the comfort of twin seats and irregular air co.
