Mubarakan (2017) A story of identity confusion between twins isn’t new to Bollywood. There have been several films made on this subject in Bollywood over the past few decades. Anees Bazmee who’s known for his successful stint with humour and his own style of comedy has dabbled with the genre again with Mubarakan – a story of twins Karan and Charan (Arjun Kapoor) who find it hard convincing their families to let them marry their respective girlfriends, played by Ileana Dcruz and Athiya Shetty. Mubarakan is a typical Anees Bazmee film with a twist. The setting oscillates between Punjab and London and the supporting cast comprises of big names like Ratna Pathak Shah and Pavan Malhotra who play heads of families to Karan and Charan. Anil Kapoor plays a bumbling Sardar Kartaar whose decision-making abilities lend to ample humour to this already funny plot. Bazmee weaves drama laced with ample comedy by focusing on the script that has some genuinely funny gags. A big fat Punjabi wedding is in the heart of this film that also builds the right emotional connect with its audience..

Mubarakan is one of the most entertaining films of 2017. Arjun Kapoor’s double role act and Anees Bazmee’s superb direction make it a total paisa vasool experience..

While the film is largely hilarious and can leave you in splits, some elements and dialogues like Iss baar Christmas 25 ko hai? and Yeh mooli maamuli nehi hai disappoints. Having the British house help talk in Punjabi is not funny. Rahul Dev, who plays Bi.

The second half of the film drags a bit, though it has some lighter moments. If you look for progressive thought in the film such as how families still dominate their children’s choice of a partner, how religion and prejudices in parent’s generation a.

And that isn't a great idea: watch Mubarakan only if you dig comedies that do not demand that you dig deep for logic and meaning..

On the whole, MUBARAKAN is a fine entertainer that should appeal to the family audiences big time. It has a strong Punjabi element that should enhance the film’s prospects in North India, Canada and Australia. At the box office, it will have a good ride.

There is no doubt in my mind that I'd watch Mubarakan again and again just for its clean dialogues and clean comic punches; just like Andaz Apna Apna or Hera Pheri. I can bet that you won't disagree with me..

On the flipside, the narrative slows down post interval as things start getting a tad melodramatic with long monlogues delivered by some characters. The climax too lacks a bit of sheen.

Mubarakan is designed as a family film where comedy is generated through quarrelling relatives. This works initially but goes out of control later.

Ratna and Pavan add weightage with their stellar acts, though Pavan should have kept it down in the dramatic portions, where he is much too loud. The songs—Tu Goggle Paa Ke Nache and a remix of the Hawa Hawa number lift the spirits. If comedies are y.
