Omerta (2018) Omerta is about British-born Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh and his journey of becoming a terrorist. It all starts when he sees how his people get butchered in the 1994 Bosnian War. A bright student, pursuing his education from London School, Omar, leaves everything to join Islamic aid expedition in order to provide some kind of help to his religion. The movie starts with Omar getting in disguise of a Rohit Verma in Delhi. He befriends the foreigners to kidnap them and send a message across the world that they’re not safe. In this process, Omar gets arrested by the Delhi Police. Whoever has followed the journey of real Omar Sheikh knows how he managed to get out of it. Entire story depicts this supercilious journey of the life of Omar Sheikh..

Omerta is a pain-lashed brutal and blunt exposition on terrorism. It offers no hope for the end of violence. In fact it tells us that violence won’t go away even if we want it to..

Almost towards the end, you have him parting with a chilling smile on his face when he's finally caught by the Pakistani authorities. That haunting look is what lingers for long! I am going with three stars here..

It's a shame really that Omerta lacks depth, never giving an insight into Omar's criminal designs. As a thriller, it's pacy and yet, distinctly half-baked and stiff. I assure you, this movie could be about one of most dreaded men of our times but this fil.

On the whole, OMERTA has some engrossing moments and Rajkummar Rao’s award-worthy performance as its USP. But the unconventional narrative and dark, violent theme of the film will restrict its appeal. Box office wise, this film will have a tough road ah.

As the film does not delve much into the particular subject’s personal life, it becomes more of a larger comment on communal hatred and the futility of religion when it is used to propagate violence and evil purposes..

In recounting a widely documented tale, the screenplay hits the right thriller buttons. When violence is perpetrated indiscriminately and without any moral context created with the aid of a detailed back story, it can only be deeply disconcerting. Omerta .

In the same breath in an interview to Reuters, he slammed “most of us liberal-mined people” of being “too passive”. Fair enough. But it’s troubling if Omerta’s slick, superficial account is his way of shaking that impassivity..
