Whistle (2019)
Michel(Vijay) is the local messiah of the masses and often helps the poor. He has many enemies and who keep targeting him often. One fine day, Michel’s friend who is a ladies’ football coach gets badly injured and Michel is left to lead the side as a new coach. But the twist in the tale aries when the ladies in the team strictly do not want him as their coach. Why did they do this? What is the reason? Who is this Michel? What is his past and how does Michel train the team and win the tournament finally? To know this, you have to watch the film on the big screen..

All in all, Whistle has some Whistle Podu moments. But, the film is not a complete entertainer. This indeed is not the film we expect from the combo of Vijay-Atlee. More importantly, the football episodes lacked that thrilling factor which is mandatory to.

The sports stuff, for example, is mixed with drama involving various girls with different backdrops. It feels never-ending and too much at a time. Simultaneously, the actual sports stuff is too gimmicky, but it all never veers into the unbearable territor.

It is overlong but the calculated attempt to turn the film into a women empowerment saga works. The film does however enforce the male saviour complex, but makes up for it when a female character, an acid attack survivor, gets the loudest cheer..
