Darbar (2020)
Adithya Arunachalam (Rajinikanth) is specially deputed as the police commissioner of Mumbai to erase drug menace in the city. He doesn’t go by the rulebook, doesn’t think a second to break the law to get the things done, to nab the criminals. He soon finds Ajay Malhotra (Prateik Babbar), a businessman’s son, is behind the racket of drug supply. Using his own ‘bad cop’ methods, he kills Ajay Malhotra in a dramatic incident. Now, another drug lord has targeted Adithya Arunachalam and his daughter Valli (Nivetha Thomas). Who he is? Why does he want to kill Valli?.

Rajinikanth and Nivetha Thomas let it rip in this one and Murugadoss makes the best use of it despite the predictable story that goes from light-hearted to heavy. Go watch Darbar if you’re a fan of either of the actors, just don’t go in expecting Raji.

The last half hour and the climax are a huge letdown.
In a nutshell, director AR Muguadoss has placed a huge burden on 69-year-old Rajinikanth’s feeble shoulders to carry the movie. “Darbar” ends as a half-backed commercial potboiler.

Darbar` is an Action Entertainer with your Regular `Cop with attitude` Character. It is pretty Entertaining initially to see Rajini as a Cop but the 2nd half turns to out to be a pretty ordinary affair. The film rides on the Charisma of Rajini with no Str.

Bottom-line: ‘Darbar’ is entirely Rajinikanth’s show. Looking younger, he also has carried the movie on his shoulders that has a predictable storyline. The film indeed offers some engaging moments but the final sequences should have been better..

On the whole, Darbar is a serious cop drama which has some engaging moments going it’s way in the first half. But things get bogged down in the last twenty minutes making the film a bit dull. Rajini’s fans will love their star hero as he is superb. As.
