Do-gooder Deepak Rai (Sanjay Kapoor) comes across a stolen purse that contains education certificates belonging to a woman named Aarti. He mails them to her and they start a correspondence. Even though they have never seen each other, there is a mutual attraction. Aarti's sister and brother-in-law Nirmal (Tej Sapru) are encouraging to a certain extent. While Nirmal would prefer that Aarti marry Prem (Salman Khan), his wife wants Aarti to choose her own life partner. Aarti starts out on her journey to locate and meet Deepak. Not helping matters is Neha (Sushmita Sen), who is Deepak's boss, and likes him. Neha wants Deepak to become all to herself, but Deepak doesn't see a relationship between them. One day Aarti comes across Deepak and they become friends without realizing that they know each other from the letters.
