Movie Info

Maryam, a Muslim girl of 15, finds solace, almost closure in Bharatnatyam after her mother's sudden demise. She finds encouragement from her father, a tailor of limited financial means and a limitless heart. But when ek Mohammedan ladki stoops down to perform the customary pranam before starting her Bharatnatyam performance, it ruffles feathers, making staunch flagbearers of 'kaum' and 'sabhyata' on both ends of the spectrum shift in their chairs. The Hindu girl reviewing this film grew up learning Kathak of Lucknow Gharana and never had her hands - or feet - tied up as she did the tatkaar. It is clear very early on in Mee Raqsam (I Dance) that this isn't most of our story. But that doesn't mean it doesn't resonate with you.
