Karthik (Sriram) is studying M.C.A. at Chennai and also working part time in a courier company. His father wants him to marry his friend's daughter Anbu Selvi (Meera Jasmine) who is studying her final year B. Com in Trichy. Neither of them is interested to marry at that time, but they are forced into the marriage, so they decide to separate after some time. Since they have decided only about one point - that they are to separate in the near future -- they decide not to consummate their marriage.

Predictably, they gradually fall in love with each other over a period of time. The frustration which builds up due to their proximity, their increasing love for each other, and by their unconsummated desires has been very well delineated.

Karthik completes his M.C.A. with flying colours and also gets a lucrative job. When he returns home to give this good news, Anbu Selvi has already left his house to live with her parents due to a misunderstanding created by his careless statement in her father's presence, resulting in a rift between the two families. How Karthik convinces both families, how these misunderstandings are cleared, and how they come together again forms the rest of the movie.
