Movie Info

This movie elevates the lifestyle and issues of the lambadi community. The message is told through the struggle of a character Kamli, (Nandita Das) a lambadi girl who marries Redya Nayak (Shafi). They live in Hyderabad, doing labor jobs. The taboo of selling female babies is a common practice in the tanda (hamlet) which they hailed from. Redya Nayak is drunkard. Kamli delivers a boy in a hospital. But the hospital groups swap the baby with a female child. Then Kamli protests against the offense and gets the baby back with the help of media. Unable to leave the female child, with whom she becomes emotionally attached by breastfeeding, she takes home the female baby too. All this jogs on her mind when she goes to the same hospital on a job to pull down that construction. Many issues were discussed in a lifelike fashion, very sensitive social problem - the issue of girl child. Why do these Lambada women be forced to part with only girl children? Again why only girl babies are being swapped in Hyderabad hospitals? These touching moments were captured by ace lens man Sunny Joseph.
