Long before the Telugu Film Industry shifted to Hyderabad from Chennai, there was nothing conducive in Hyderabad for a film industry to be established & to prosper. The Telugu Film Industry had been operated from Chennai(then Madras) itself. Akkineni Nageswara Rao is one of the first actor who played critical part in the development of Hyderabad based Telugu Film Industry by relocating himself to Hyderabad When the entire Telugu Film Industry was still located in Chennai. He is the one of the rarest personalities who was a hard working actor & a visionary that could envisage the bright future of Telugu Film Industry in its home land. For making Hyderabad a conducive place for a film industry to be based & operated from, he identified that infrastructure(studios) was needed. With that vision & desire to bring Telugu Film Industry to Hydeabad, he started the construction of 'Annapurna Studios' in 1955. Completed in 1975 & inaugurated on Jan 14, 1976 by the then President of India Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, Annapurna Studios has since been a key player in the development & betterment of Telugu Film Industry having world class production facilities in it. Akkineni Nageswara Rao's grand son & Tollywood hero, Sumanth has reminded or informed the audience through his twitter account that August 13th is the anniversary of Annapurna Studios. "Missed that?!
