Roja
Roja (Madhoo) a young woman is married off to Rishi (Arvind) after her elder sister rejects him. Rishi and Roja relocate to Kashmir| due to Rishi's professional commitments and they start falling in love with each other. However| tragedy strikes their short married life when| Rishi is kidnapped by a terror group and held to ransome for the release of Wasim Khan| a dreaded terrorist. Will Roja be able to bring her husband back from the clutches of death? The film was subsequently dubbed in Hindi| Marathi| Malayalam and Telugu languages. The film won three National Film Awards| including Best Film on National Integration| catapulting Ratnam to national acclaim. The film's successful and acclaimed score and soundtrack were composed by A. R. Rahman| who debuted in Tamil as a music director with this film.
